Channa ALWAYS knew she wanted to teach. Her two degrees from
Stanford
University
and her latest M.S. from
Pepperdine
University
have turned out to be the least of her accomplishments. After teaching in
Los Angeles
Unified
School District
for five years, including a year as a Literacy Coach at Crenshaw High, she and fellow trailblazing educator Kristin Leigh Moody co-founded
Sojourner
Truth
Academy
. These doors of opportunity will open to students in need during August 2008. This innovative space for learning is one of the few charter schools dedicated to high school students in post Katrina New Orleans.
Truth will offer students an inclusive, community-centered educational environment; rigorous college preparatory academics and electives that will prepare all students for a four-year university; and the support and tools to successfully implement a community service project of the students’ own design.
Despite some issues with his views on Blacks, we feel this following quote by Mahatma Gandhi says it best:
“The difference between what we do and what we are capable of doing would suffice to solve most of the world’s problems.”
